Exporting olive oil from Tunisia

Exporting olive oil from Tunisia

In bulk or packed, from Tunisia to buyers worldwide

Sfax sits at the centre of one of the largest olive-growing regions in the Mediterranean, and our office is there. We ship your olive oil to buyers in Europe and the rest of the world, in bulk or packed: the right equipment for the format, the export documents checked before departure, customs clearance in Tunisia and the freight by sea, road or air, with every fee in the quote.

What we take care of

  • The right format: flexitank, ISO tank, drums or pallets
  • Equipment booked ahead of the harvest season
  • Export documents checked before departure
  • Proof of origin for the EU (EUR.1 or origin declaration)
  • Export customs clearance in Tunisia
  • Cargo insurance on request

Questions olive oil exporters ask

Flexitank or ISO tank?

A flexitank is a single-use bag in a standard 20' container, cost-effective for large bulk volumes. An ISO tank is a reusable stainless steel tank, often heated, for buyers who need strict hygiene control or for shipments in cold weather.

As early as you can. The harvest, from about November to February, is a busy time for equipment and bookings in Sfax. See Planning around peak shipping seasons.

Usually the commercial invoice, the packing list, the transport document, the proof of origin and a quality analysis certificate, plus health or organic certificates for some markets. Our guide Exporting olive oil from Sfax: what to plan lists them.

Avoid extremes: heat and light speed up its ageing, and cold makes it cloudy and slow to discharge. We plan the timing so containers do not stand in the sun at the port, and suggest heated equipment for winter shipments.

Plan the shipment before the harvest

The format drives everything else: the equipment, the cost and part of the paperwork. Bulk oil travels in flexitanks or ISO tanks; medium volumes in drums or IBCs; finished products in bottles or tins on pallets, in a full container or as part of a shared one. Tell us the volume, the format and the buyer’s market, and we propose the equipment and the route.

For buyers in the European Union, an EUR.1 certificate or an origin declaration on the invoice lets them claim preferential treatment under the trade agreement, where it applies. Our customs clearance service prepares the export declaration and checks the file before the oil leaves Tunisia.
