Exporting dates from Tunisia

Exporting dates from Tunisia

Deglet Nour and other varieties, chilled from the oases to your buyers

Tunisia is one of the world’s leading exporters of dates, most of them Deglet Nour from the oases of the south. We ship your dates to buyers in Europe and the rest of the world: refrigerated equipment booked ahead of the season, the export documents and certificates checked before departure, customs clearance in Tunisia and the freight by sea, road or air, with every fee in the quote.

What we take care of

  • Refrigerated containers and trucks
  • Equipment booked ahead of the harvest and Ramadan peaks
  • Phytosanitary certificate and export documents checked
  • Proof of origin for the EU (EUR.1 or origin declaration)
  • Export customs clearance in Tunisia
  • Cargo insurance on request

Questions date exporters ask

Do dates need a refrigerated container?

For most shipments, yes. Dates keep their colour, texture and moisture best when they stay chilled for the whole journey; we agree the set temperature with you and your buyer before loading. See Container types: which one fits your cargo.

As early as you can. The harvest, from about October to December, and the weeks before Ramadan are the busiest times for refrigerated equipment and bookings. See Planning around peak shipping seasons.

Usually the commercial invoice, the packing list, the transport document, the proof of origin and a phytosanitary certificate, plus organic or quality certificates for some markets. Our guide Shipping from Tunisia to the EU: document checklist lists them.

A refrigerated container by sea is the most economical for full loads; a refrigerated truck goes door to door to Europe; air suits samples and small premium orders. We compare the options in your quote.

Keep the cold chain unbroken

Dates travel well when the temperature stays steady from the packing house to the buyer. We pre-cool the equipment, agree the set temperature and the ventilation with you, and plan the collection so the cargo does not wait in the heat. Tell us the volume, the packing and the buyer’s market, and we propose the equipment and the route.

For buyers in the European Union, an EUR.1 certificate or an origin declaration on the invoice lets them claim preferential treatment under the trade agreement, where it applies. Our customs clearance service prepares the export declaration and checks the file before the dates leave Tunisia.
